A woman has been arrested following a dramatic police pursuit in Sydney’s west after reports emerged that a passenger attempted to jump from a moving delivery van.
Police were called to the M4 Motorway near Reservoir Road in Blacktown at around 10.30am on Saturday after receiving reports that a woman was trying to escape from the vehicle while it was in motion. Highway Patrol officers later spotted the van continuing along the M4.
Police sources confirmed the incident was not related to the Bondi terror incident. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply, prompting a pursuit. The chase was later terminated due to safety concerns.
A short time later, police located the passenger — a 30-year-old woman — on King Street in Parramatta. She was found uninjured.
With assistance from Tactical Operations officers and Polair, police later stopped the van on James Ruse Drive in Rosehill. The driver, a 48-year-old woman, was arrested and taken to Granville Police Station.
Further inquiries revealed the delivery van had been stolen from St Marys. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
